Cellist Chris Hurn and Kora player Stefano Vandelli have known each other and collaborated musically for over two decades.
 

string2string represents the union of many cultures, with original compositions rooted in Italian and English heritage, performed with the quintessential instruments of classical western and traditional West African music; the cello and the kora.

Some of the early compositions were  written for solo kora, a 22 stringed instrument with a sound that most resembles the harp, or kora with other instruments such as mandolin in Giochi and flute in Soar, while more recent works have been written with the cello in mind from the outset. 

It is hard to disagree that the sweet and complex sound of the kora combines exquisitely with the rich melodic resonance of the cello:
